How to Safely Dispose of Propane Tanks & Cylinders

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA (August 15, 2022) – Propane, helium, and compressed gas cylinders or tanks should never be placed in the trash. Putting cylinders in the trash is dangerous and can lead to injury or death. Gas cylinders of any kind are potentially explosive when they are disposed in the garbage because of how trash is handled. Instead, dispose unwanted cylinders and tanks at the Solid Waste Authority’s (SWA) convenient drop-off locations for cylinders and household hazardous waste.

Households may transport unwanted cylinders to one of several SWA transfer stations or to the SWA Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Click SWA transfer stations  or SWA Household Hazardous Waste Facility for locations.
